Early Communication and Social Group

The Early Communication and Social Group is designed to enhance communication and social skills among young children (age 3-5 yrs). Over a 12-week period, this program offers targeted goals like independent requesting, initiating greetings, and turn-taking. Each session incorporates caregiver training and in-session coaching to support the development of these skills.

This group focuses on practical skill-building in social interactions and communication, with caregivers actively involved through concurrent workshops and coaching sessions. Workshop topics include enhancing social skills, creating communication opportunities, and managing challenging behaviors. The program is structured to ensure personalized attention and real-world application, providing a supportive environment for both children and caregivers.

Program Details:

  • Start Date: Wednesday, May 15, 2024
  • End Date: Friday, August 2, 2024
  • Ages: 3-5 yrs
  • Duration: 12-week program
  • Frequency: Twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays
  • Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Format: In-person group sessions with caregiver participation
  • Location: 1870 Birchmount Road, Scarborough
  • Language: All sessions will be conducted in English

Eligibility:

  • Suitable for children who are just starting to talk or sometimes have trouble asking for what they need.
  • The child does not exhibit aggression towards others or engage in self-injurious behaviors.
  • Parent participation is mandatory (up to 1 hour per week)

What to Expect:

  • Children will learn to request independently, engage in social greetings, and share with peers
  • Caregivers will gain insights on fostering social skills, creating communication opportunities, and managing challenging behaviors
  • Enhanced communication and social interaction skills for children, supported by direct caregiver involvement

Registration is currently OPEN. Interested families will undergo a brief screening and may be invited for an assessment to confirm their suitability.

Fees & Funding

  • Cost of the program: $3,360
  • Payment option: Can be paid in 3 installments of $1,120 each.
