SPEECH THERAPY

Communication is a key area affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. Children diagnosed with ASD have an array of communication difficulties ranging from being non-verbal to being extremely verbal but who misuse and misunderstand language. It is such communication difficulties that are addressed and treated by Speech Therapists.

Speech Therapists are healthcare professionals involved in assisting and promoting effective communication skills. They are particularly needed in order to serve children diagnosed with ASD. The Speech Therapist involved with the South Asian Autism Awareness Centre pursues the following avenues to help children communicate clearly and effectively:

  • Non-verbal communication: this includes communication through sign language, pictures, and symbols
  • Work on articulation, pronunciation, and vocabulary building
  • Build conversation skills specifically working on back-and-forth exchange

The South Asian Autism Awareness Centre truly believes that with the appropriate assessment and effective implementation of treatment our students can gain the ability to communicate adequately, which will ultimately serve them throughout their lives.
