A Vulnerable Sector Check is intended for individuals seeking employment or volunteer opportunities with vulnerable persons. A vulnerable person is defined as a person who, because of their age, a disability, or other circumstances, whether temporary or permanent, are (a) in a position of dependence on others or (b) are otherwise at a greater risk than the general population of being harmed by person(s) in a position of authority or trust to them.

At the SAAAC Autism Centre, we require a vulnerable sector check from all potential volunteers and staff. Here are ways you can obtain a copy of the vulnerable sector check for your region:

York Region – (VAUGHAN, MARKHAM, RICHMOND HILL, STOUFVILLE) Access York Region’s vulnerable sector check information HERE

Toronto – (SCARBOROUGH,ETOBICOKE, NORTH YORK, DOWNTOWN TORONTO) Only residents of Toronto (with postal codes beginning with “M”) are eligible to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Toronto Police Service. To process an application, an agency code is required, which will be provided by the Volunteer Program Manager. Before submitting your application, please review the accepted pieces of ID at: Toronto Police Service – Police Record Checks.

There are three ways to process an application in Toronto:

  1. Apply Online: https://www2.policesolutions.ca/checks/services/toronto/register.php
  2. In-person:
    • Visit the Information Access counter at Toronto Police Headquarters located at 40 College Street (Mon-Fri, 7am-4:30pm)
    • Administrative fee, if applicable, can be paid with debit or credit at our Information Access counter
  3. By Mail:
    • Pick-up at application form from SAAAC Autism Centre
    • Mail your completed application to:
