Behaviour Consultation Services is a short-term service (up to 12 weeks) that collaborates with families of children and youth with autism. Using the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), we aim to achieve specific learning goals. Behaviour consultations facilitate caregiver training and support through individualized strategies and provide educational and community resources to help families reach their child’s specific goals.
Program Details:
- Start Date: Tuesday, July 2, 2024
- Duration: Up to 12 weeks of service
- Frequency: Once a week on evenings and Saturdays
- Time: Services and scheduling will be on a case-by-case basis
- Format: Short-term consultation service between caregivers and qualified behaviour consultants
- Location: On-site, in homes, and community settings
Eligibility:
- Age Range: 2-18 years
- Diagnosis: Child has a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
- Behavior: Minimal/low or no challenging behaviours observed on a regular basis.
- Caregiver: Caregiver available to attend all sessions
Behaviour Consultants:
Our team includes Registered Behaviour Analysts (RBA/BCBA) and candidates training to become Registered Behaviour Analysts, all working under the supervision of an experienced RBA.
What to Expect:
- Evidence-based assessment, programming, and recommendations based on ABA principles
- Individualized programming to address up to 2 specific learning goals, such as:
- Healthy sleep and bedtime routines
- Toilet training
- Healthy eating and expanding food variety
- Safety skills (e.g., on the road, in the kitchen)
- Preparing for routines and transitions
- Teaching early communication skills
- Self-care and daily living routines (e.g., toothbrushing, handwashing)
- Self-management skills
Service Hours:
- Service length and hours depend on the identified goals.
- Service can be up to 12 weeks with a maximum of 8 hours per week, including direct in-person work and administrative work.
- Included in service hours are:
- Initial and weekly caregiver and team meetings
- Assessment of the child, including parent interview and observations
- Individualized goal programming and frequent updates/modifications
- 1-2 caregiver coaching sessions per week to focus on program implementation
