Building Essential Skills for Success in Group Settings


Group Foundations is designed to help children develop the pre-requisite skills needed to learn and engage in a group setting. Through structured activities, children will practice sitting in small groups, following teacher-led instructions, and transitioning between activities. This program prepares children for success in classroom environments and other group-based programs.

Program Details:

  • Duration: July 21 – August 1 (10 sessions) – Groups will run everyday for a two week period
  • Schedule: 9 AM – 11:30 AM
  • Ages: under 10 yrs
  • Location: 1870 Birchmount Rd; Scarborough, ON
  • Language: English

Goals of the Program:

  • Practice sitting in a small group (4–5 students)
  • Follow group instructions from a teacher
  • Transition smoothly between activities and locations
  • Learn to wait with the group during transitions
  • Separate from caregivers with confidence
  • Request items and activities from the teacher

Eligibility:

Your child is ready for this program, if they:

  • Are “group ready” (able to stay in a room with peers without engaging in behaviours that may pose a risk to themselves or others, such as high rates of aggression, self-injury, or elopement)
  • Are able to follow some simple instructions with help
