At SAAAC Autism Centre, we know that helping your child navigate their feelings can feel overwhelming—especially if terms like “emotional regulation” are new to you. That’s why we’re offering a gentle, practical introduction to this important concept through our free Emotional Regulation Mini-Workshop.

This session is open to all families, including those supporting children on the autism spectrum, and especially those who are just beginning their journey with emotional learning.

What Is Emotional Regulation?

It’s the ability to understand, manage, and respond to emotions in healthy ways. And just like reading or riding a bike, it’s something children can learn—with the right support.

During the workshop, we’ll explore:

  • The basics of self-regulation (how children manage their own emotions)
  • The power of co-regulation (how caregivers support emotional growth)
  • An introduction to the Zones of Regulation, a simple tool that helps children recognize and name what they’re feeling
  • Practical strategies you can use at home to help your child feel safe and understood

Why It Matters

When children learn how to manage their emotions, they build stronger relationships, feel more confident, and experience fewer emotional outbursts. For caregivers, understanding these tools leads to less stress and more connection.

This workshop also gives families a sneak peek into our My Emotions curriculum—a group-based program that helps autistic children and their caregivers explore emotions together in fun, accessible ways.
