“I ask god, to give me a long life, so I can take care of her”

Angela’s wish as a mother is to live a very long life, so she can take care of her daughter for as long as she can.

Angela travelled from Montreal to Toronto to help her daughter Taniya, a blossoming young artist, who was on the autism spectrum. Amelia was looking for a combination of services that could help her daughter prosper – services that helped with her communication and behaviour challenges, along with programs that engaged her interest in the arts.

Newcomer mothers like Angela face several challenges to accessing the care they need for their loved ones  – from language difficulties to financial hardships to cultural stigma within their communities.

Angela and Taniya are success stories. They are the products of what is possible when communities come together to eliminate barriers and collectively support families in need.
