Who we are :
A registered non-profit organization that was initiated in 2008 sparked by the urgent need for awareness and support to overcome stigmas in the South Asian community surrounding autism and related disorders .
What we do:
- Alter perceptions via culturally sensitive social networks.
- Create awareness of recent finding on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and related disorders.
- Highlight treatments, interventions, funding and resources available in the community.
- Support intellectual, social and physical development of our participants raising their self-esteem and confidence
- Facilitate psycho educational workshops for parents and present the biopsychosocial ramifications of ASD and related disorders.
- Advocate for parents at schools and other institutions where language may be a barrier.
Goals
- Research: Pursue community-based research on autism to assess the
needs of the South Asian community at large - Community outreach: engage the community at all levels (students, businesses, government officials, retirees etc.) to become involved in raising awareness
- Education: build a school that would address the distinct needs of children with autism and related disorders by providing them with a safe and stable environment that would be the most beneficial to their growth
- Fundraising: raise the necessary funds to adequately provide all programs and services
